    going insane! ( 7057 x64 )

just built this computer and decided to run windows 7 on it.

    system:
    asus p6t deluxe v2 motherboard
    core i7 920
    640gig wd caviar black hd
    corsair 6gb dominator ram
saphire radeon 4870 512mb graphics card

    problem:

every game Ive tried so far will appear to run perfectly fine ( awesome fps ) and running smoothly.. but then the screen will flash black for a second.

It will continue doing this every minute or so until the game crashes or the dreaded bsod happens. :[

I even just ran the windows performance test and I got this message after the screen flickered black. " ati radeon has stopped responding and has recovered "

I've updated to the latest catalyst drivers and tried almost everything I can think of. Is this common with windows 7 gaming or is it possible my gfx card is bad?

    any help is greatly appreciated.

I would be inclined to experiment with drivers

I don't know if it will help but have you tried adjusting your power options to High Performance.

I would look at heating problems with the Graphics card or the CPU.

I agree it sounds like overheating to me also. Those ATI cards can get very hot without good case flow but it's nothing that adding a couple fans won't help.
