Is the 2GB of RAM in your profile accurate?

    daxhoot,

That "may" be your problem. 2GB on a 64-bit system may just not be enough? Combine that with your card, and that may explain the lag? I read a bunch of reviews on the 8600GT, and none of them show great fps, but certainly sufficient to play; however, they were all done on 32-bit systems.

As it happens my wife runs an 8600GT and 2GB's, and I happen to have CS Source. I'll install it on her machine later today and see what it runs like... but she's running the 32-bit version of 7 so results may differ?

    **edit**

In the meantime, try turning every setting you can find to low or off... see if it runs any better?

    blake002,

You've got plenty of RAM, that's not your issue... still thinking about what the cause could be.

Dude, I'll try lowering the settings, but i don't think my fps goes low, just those spikes. Thanks for the help with your wifes comuter If it works well for her, I will install 32 bit, stop playing, or keep struggling with this. Thanks so much And by the way, my GCard is 8600 GT magic, which has 512 MB ram, differing the usuall 8600gt with it's 256 Mb

    *****EDIT*****
Still getting it with the lowest settings :S

Yeah, I saw that about your card, which may be an issue? The gfx card is an MMIO device, meaning that it grabs system RAM before the OS loads in order to function properly. Without getting into a big explanation, the net result is that you really have less than 2GB to work with; the graphics card is grabbing at least 512MB. Considering your other MMIO devices, you're left with under 1.5GB of RAM to use... which on a 64-bit rig may be pushing it? Which is why I suggested lowering any and all settings you can find.

No problem about the wife's rig... I often commandeer it for testing purposes.

I have noticed one thing in cs:s that does not happen in other games that use net_graph. My out in net_graph 3 spikes alot like goes to 200-300 in cs:s and in most other games the most it gets to is maybe 100. Not sure if you understand unless you have played the game.
