Direct 3D in older games problem? Hello, I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista a while back, and recently reinstalled a few older games: Diablo II, Dungeon Siege, Warcraft III, and Fable: TLC.
In all 3 of these games, the screen frequently flickers black. It's not game-breaking, but it's distracting enough to deter me from enjoying the games. Diablo II doesn't do it if played in DirectDraw mode, but that's replaced with another problem of "rainbow" coloring, which seems to be a common problem with DirectDraw. Of course, DirectDraw isn't an option in the other ones.
Anyway, I don't know what's going on. My hardware is unchanged from Vista, and these games didn't do this on that OS. I've tried the various compatibility options and none of them make a difference. It's really bugging me, and Google wasn't very helpful on finding a solution, if there is one. Help would be much appreciated! | My System Specs |

Xpmode is an addon to Windows 7 its not a compatibility mode.
It runs a virtual XP OS.

Sorry for the delayed response; been busy the past couple of days.
I looked into XP Mode, but my computer isn't compatible with it. I did download a different virtual machine, VirtualBox, but it didn't solve my problem
My drivers are up-to-date, and so is Direct X. I'm at a loss! Thanks for the replies though, they are much appreciated!
My friend suggested I might download Blizzard's official digital version which is available after registering my CD keys with them. Maybe they've made it more optimized for newer operating systems. Maybe. I won't get my hopes up just yet | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 1318 OS windows 7 ultimate CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00ghz Memory 2 GB Graphics Card Intel GMA X3100 Integrated Hard Drives Single 150 GB |

If I remember correctly, Direct3D didn't work for Diablo II even in XP. Direct 3D for Diablo II worked in XP, and even in Vista. I found what the problem is though, and it was a little embarrassing, but also kind of backwards. The newest drivers for Windows 7 were buggy and were causing that, so I installed slightly older drivers and it fixed it. I hope Intel releases new ones soon that fixes it. Although these drivers don't seem to decrease performance any, it'd be nice to be fully up-to-date | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 1318 OS windows 7 ultimate CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00ghz Memory 2 GB Graphics Card Intel GMA X3100 Integrated Hard Drives Single 150 GB Direct 3D in older games problem? problems?
