Age of Empires plays as audio CD

Hello I just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and I wanted to get into games. I'm totally new at this. I got Age of Empires Gold Edition with Conquerors Expansion and Age of Kings and both discs play as audio tracks by unknown album. Nothing else happens. Any ideas? Thanks.

    My specs are:

    HP DV7-2278C
    Intel Core 2 Quad
    500 GB Sata
    4 GB Ram
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 46 50 M96
Altec Lansing with SRS Premium sound and Subwoofer

    Welcome!

I have also noticed that you can play the CD in a CD player.

Try opening My Computer, and Opening the drive. Do not double-click it. Then run Setup.exe, or whatever the setup file is.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply. Everything is set up already, audio cds play music , games and software should install, I've already installed my phone software, movies play. I thought I just had to put the disc in and the game would start.

Unfortunately not. After you install it, you can then run the program by finding it in the start menu. After you start it, you can insert the CD.

It won't let me install it. All that comes up when I put the disc in is it starts to play like an audio cd. There is no installation happening. You're saying I have to do something before I put the disc in? Click on the E drive?

When your CD player pops up, close it. Then go to My Computer, right-click on the drive, and select Open. Could you please Post a Screenshot?

Lol, thanks, I just had to right click on it to install it. The book just said to put the disc in and follow directions and there weren't any. Thank you and now I know how to post a screen shot too. :)

One more question, there is also an option to install Direct X 6.1 or Directplay, should I do that?

Go ahead. Direct X 6 is outdated, though. Google for the latest versions if you want.

Wow you're not kidding, DirectX 11 is out. Wonder why I've got the old one with a brand new computer. Thanks again.
