TES IV: Oblivion keeps quitting on me

Hello. I just recently got a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I own The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the game will crash at certain parts, all at the beginning. I tried the regular start of the game (in a prison) and it keeps crashing. I installed a mod for alternate starts (choose one of seven starting points) and those crash in the beginning. I don't believe the mods I have should be the source of the problem, either. I have three mods installed (I erased the alternate start mod).

I need much help. I'm actually new to PC gaming. If I need the latest drivers, I dunno what to look for and where. I dunno if I need a patch or an update for Windows 7. Also, I don't know how to get detailed system information to post here. I saw something on an Oblivion forum called a "dxdiag". I need something like that. I guess a good place to start is someone pointing me in the direction (link) of how to get a program to do detailed system overviews.

Thanks to all who help. :)

Use the drivers guide in my sig to update your drivers and then patch Oblivion. Uninstall it now, delete all mods and all savegames. Reboot, install drivers and directX, and then the game. Honestly, the engine is rather sloppy, a 4890 still stutters occasionally with all settings maxed and AA off (by choice)
