    Oblivion Startup crashing problem

Some1 made a topic about the same problem as mentioned, but I just didn't found the solution there.

This problem is driving me nuts. Before I got Wins 7 I was playing Oblivion on Wins XP. I had ekhm... warez version instaled that time but it worked perfectly. One day, when I ran the game, I saw only the Bethesda logo and the loading line and then the game crashed. No additional errors like send/don't send bullshit from MS or anything, the game simply crashed and from that time I was not able to run the game again.

I tried every and I mean EVERY possible solution from patching with official and unofficial patches, updating the drivers, checking for viruses even formating the disk but it didn't helped and the problem was still the same. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention-->Even reinstalling didn't helped out of the problem and even mini images and NoCD patches. Then I somehow realized that I maybe need an original version. I bought the original GOTY edition of the game, installed it but the problem mentioned above was still here. At this point I just said **** it an I put this travesty to rest.

Few months ago I got Wins 7 installed. Brand new system, everything works like a charm...except for Oblivion. I pulled this piece of shit from my closet and I tried to install it on Windows 7 and quelle surprise! It doesn't work either on new system. Same godamn crash at startup. Again I tried every possible combination but nothing helped.

To be honest I'm stunned. What the hell is wrong with this? I have every last driver updated, and I've also tried with older GPU drivers (the ones that I played Oblivion before that fiasco on Wins XP with) but as I said--Nothing worked. But there something weird about this. On Wins XP I was getting the problem with svchost.exe. It says, that mentioned process needs to close and all that bullshit about sending the message to Microsoft. On W7 I think I get the same error 4 or 5 times, but on Windows XP mofo pop-up every 2 minutes or so. I can play any other Bethesda game just fine (Morrowind, Fallout 3...) but Oblivion is one big problem. I hope you can help me so... Bring it on :)

    Computer specs:

    C2D E4500@2.20 GHz
    2GB RAM
    8600GT@512MB
    Wins 7 32bit

Oh and BTW sorry for my stupid english :)

I have got the game working here:

    Excellent gaming performance in 7

    1) Update your drivers with the guide in my sig (apologies if you have done this already)

    2) Update both the chipset and firmware

    3) Patch the game

    4) Update DirectX

Also, your CPU is a bit weak for gaming - turn down some of the effects. Even on the setup above most of the stuttering was eliminated by turning down view distance to 70% and distant land off. AA is at 2x samples although HDR needed to be disabled.

I tried everything you mentioned but nothing worked. GOTY version already has the latest patch installed with the game so there's no point of patching. Also DX is updated to the latest.

And about weak CPU-->Kinda yeah... But as far as I remember I could play Oblivion with highest settings without any malfunction with about 60-80 FPS.

I've also tried your tutorial about drivers but it didn't helped

Anything else? By the way thanks for every info's that helps me :)

Well I have to admit, the problem is solved. The game works fine so far

I don't know what's the solution. My guess is Oldblivion mod, although it doesn't work on 1.2 patch. I've also deleted map Oblivion with saved games and .ini settings. Only "problem" is that I can't play the game in HDR mode which is fine for me for now. And BTW-->I don't think divers were the problem although I've reinstalled them.

So far so good :) Thanks for everything and again please excuse my horrible english
