    The PS3 has been hacked...

More than three years after its initial release, the PlayStation 3 has allegedly been hacked.

George Hotz, aka "GeoHot," recently announced the feat on his blog. "I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3."
Hacker says he's unlocked the PS3 - CNN

He has also apparently released the exploit on his blog.

PS3 mods coming right up. lol

Saw the new about it on our local channel. There is no stopping hackers, any device sooner or latter, if someone wants to hack, they'll do it.

You have to give the Sony credit where credit is due...they held out the beasts for three years

It looks like he is gearing up on trying to take out the SPEs or the cores around the Cell processor that caontain the encryption keys and master keys...

If he does and releases that info...GAME OVER

PS...you can't fix that kind of hacking...it will be the PSPx2

really the only thing stopping me getting a ps3 was the hypervision lockdown... since i wanted to use the ps3 and install linux and have that as like another computer.

if the hack is user friendly enough i suspect those old version 1 and 2 ps3s are gonna jump in price on ebay... i know i'll probably get one.

Good. I'm glad someone hacked a PS3. Sony has some really twisted ideas about what constitutes ownership. I don't care what the law (or eula) says. Once I purchase something, it's MINE and I will do whatever the heck I feel like doing with it. If I can find uses for something other than what the manufacturer intended or ways to make it more efficient, it's my right to do so. That is how progress is made, new technology is invented.. and so on. People who think otherwise are misguided fools. What if an equivalent of DMCA had existed in the 1800s? Where would we be now? Think about it.

I completely agree with that. I'm surprised it took so long.

If I am not mistaken, isn't there only 256mb of RAM in the PS3? Not really a powerful machine there.

512 but its split into 2 cores one being v ram but the ps3 can use both simultaneously if needed. Though it would be wasting the benefits it has fromt he faster ram it has available.
