    Drivers for USB gamepads

I have 2 separate USB adapters for Playstation-type controllers. One is a Radio Shack brand, the other is an unknown multi-plug which allows the use of Playstation controllers with either Gamecube, Xbox or PC. Neither will work without drivers, they aren't recognized as plug and play.

I have drivers for the Radio Shack adapter(the XP drivers work fine) but I can't use the other one. It's not being picked up. Are there any generic gamepad drivers to solve this?

    Hi Diosoth,

When you say 'unknown' do you mean you don't know the brand or model? Because that information would be extremely helpful in locating the proper drivers.

Neither. I bought this at a thrift store for $2 and it has no brand stamps on it. That tells me it is NOT Mad Catz, Intec or Pelican. It did work fine plug and play on my old Windows XP computer and it works with my Gamecube.

That looks like a multiport connector. If so, the last I checked, connectors/cables didn't need drivers. Sort of like saying usb cables need drivers.

Are you sure it's not the item that's connected to it asking for drivers? Again, think USB cable.

    What am I missing?

The computer recognizes it in that it will make the sound when it's plugged in or removed and the power LED on the controller will light up when I press the analog button, but it will not recognize as a gamepad no matter what I do. The Radio Shack adapter will recognize as I have the drivers for it installed.

Both of these worked without drivers under XP. Under 7 I had to install drivers to use the Radio Shack adapter. I have 2 separate Playstation controllers of different button layouts, I'd like to connect both of them but this multi-cable isn't working.

I'm inclined to agree with sygnus21, you shouldn't need drivers for an adapter cable. Have you tried using both of your PS controllers with both cables (4 possible configurations)? If the current not-working controller doesn't work w/ the Radio Shack adapter either, then you need a new driver for that controller itself, not the adapter.

It would be really, really helpful if you could upload nice big photos of each adapter and each controller.

I won't disagree that you have a driver issue with Windows 7, the fact that it worked under XP says that, but I hardly think it's the cable, it's got to be the controller, which is obviously connected to it (the cable).

Can you try your other Controller on that same cable?

    And yes....

    Especially the Radio Shack adapter?

This would help clear up the communication problem (use of terms) we seem to be having :)

    Thanks

    Radio Shack brand PSX adapter(A1)

    Generic, unknown brand PSX-to-multi adapter(A2)

    Dual Shock type PS1 controller(C1)

Nuby Street Fighter fighting game PS2 controller(C2)

C1 AND C2 will work with A1 with no problems on my PC, assuming the adapter's drivers are installed(they are). I can swap them just fine.

C1 AND C2 both worked fine with A2 on my Windows XP computer(which I no longer have).

Neither C1 nor C2 will work with A2 on my Windows 7 PC. I've tried with and without A1 plugged in.

C1 will work with A2 on my Gamecube just fine. C2 does not, I don't know why aside from some hardware incompatibility.

Well this means it's definitely an A2 cable issue. Since there's no manufacturer info, I'm going to venture a guess there aren't any drivers either. Maybe A2 has an outdated USB connector that's not readable by your new computer's USB ports? Oh well, I think you're better off just buying another A1 at this point!! sygnus21, you got any ideas?
