    Battlefield Bad Company 2

    Thoughts?

As far as i see this game is going to be amazing upon release, as they are jumping to the bug issues in the beta released already updated it since it has been released. I think MW2 Is going to have a run for its money, own both games and i can say BC2 is a more satisfying game to play.

i read the forums of various places regulary, seems people cannot get there head round this whole 'beta' thing. I know someone who works for a place and hes telling me that the pre-orders cancelling are amoungst the highest theyve ever had. Having said that, personally ive noticed a huge difference in the last couple days in BC2 as they update it, it now plays much more smoothly and the lag probs are vanishing, hell friends list even works for me now. Once complete and bug free i do think MW2 will have a massive problem with this game, the obvious one being dedicated servers. Something which plagues MW2. Ive got both games too and whilst MW2 single player is fantastic i think BD2 may just pip it

I've heard mixed reviews of the beta so far. We all know EA is jumping all over IW's massive fail with this release, but at the end of the day, it's still a console port, so I wonder just how good it'll be? My eye is on Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3 is a long way away, and i def need things to keep me occupied upon that release. But yes it is a beta, for us to play and report bugs, and them to the best of their ability to iron everything out before march 2nd. People are taking the beta as the official release of the game, which is making them cancel, but we shall see how things turn out. I would think they would of named it a demo if it was pretty close to FINAL product but they named it as beta, as things still need to be worked out. I have faith in them, as they updated battlefield 2 over 10 times, or shall i say PATCHED till they got things perfect which is a good sign, as they give their attention to there products even years down the road. A little optimization with some of the major kinks which have no choice to be worked out this game will be awesome.

I understand the differences between a beta and a demo... ... but thanks.

My larger point was that, imo, EA hasn't been doing a very good job on the PC side, and haven't been doing very good for a while now. Again, imo, BF2 sucked (cone of fire... wtf was with that? ); this "feature", EA decided, was good enough to include in 2142. If that crap happens to make it into BC I will not be happy.

They lucked out with 1942 and put out a great game. With Vietnam, gameplay was not as good, but at least they didn't gimp the weapons. BF2 = cone of fire; weapons delays; jump delays and all sorts of unnecessary features included to appease pubbers and nubs who complained they were getting owned by "bunny hoppers"... and I hated them all. I realize it's a vehicle centric game, but by gimping infantry as dramatically as they did, they made it overly vehicle reliant.

After BF2, they dropped the ball on the PC altogether, and admittedly, it's BF3 that they're putting their efforts into as far as making a great PC game; with BC, they're not. All they're doing is trying to cash in on IW's fail...

Not that that's a bad thing, but again, at the end of the day, BC is still a console port. Yeah sure, they're going to, hopefully, include some basic features that MW2 didn't, and they're going to have dedi's, but because I still play the original, they're going to have to do a really good job... and to be honest, I just don't think that's where their heart is with this game. I'll buy it and play it, but I just won't go into it with high hopes. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised?

Until they get serious about dealing with the chaeaters these games will have limited appeal..and shelf-life.

MW2-- the Cheating started almost immediately-- and, among with several other "issues", has pretty much ruined the "experience".

BCB2-- we will just have to wait and see. As of right now (during beta testing) punkbuster is pretty much turned off (rightly so). You can argue that punkbuster itself has problems and does not work well enough. We will just have to see how everything shakes out.

    FINGERS CROSSED.

    Hi LPDad,

As far as cheaters and MW2 goes, IW really just shot themselves in the foot... the fail is 100% self inflicted. Dedicated servers would have alleviated much of the problem, as would have PunkBuster. I honestly think most of the guys ruining MW2 are doing it just because they're strill holding a grudge against IW for letting them down so bad... and by that I mean lying to their faces. The kind of crap MW2 is facing is sort of unprecedented.

Sure, PB isn't perfect, but one thing it does that makes it vastly superior to VAC is it allows admins to take screen shots of a player's screen; server admins can then later go over said screens and submit dubious ones to evenbalance. It's been my experience that this is how most cheaters are caught... and not by waiting for punkbuster to update to recognize the latest cheats.

In the end though, I can't really say cheaters ruin my day. I've only come across one guy who's hacked in competition (who was caught by a pb screenshot and later banned from CAL). I'm sure I've been killed by download, but for the most part, the guys who cheat, again in my experience, aren't good enough to pay attention to.

... ps... by the way, I got a chuckle out of your other post talking about your "cryptic advice".

I have both MW2 and BC2 and they are 2 totally different games, at least to me.
MW2 is more like Checkers and BC2 is more like Chess.
