Windows 7: Grand Prix 4

26 Aug 2011   #11

Win 7 Home 32bit

Installing GpXPatch and setting the compatibility mode, including run as administrator for both gpx and gp4.exe usually solves this problem. In gpx set cpu to 1 as for some rigs running 64bit, gp4 does not like running in dual core cpu mode.

Windows 7 64 bit

hello again guys,

I'm back with a

Luckily through some help on a GP4 forum, same users who are experts have helped me solve the problem.

Check this out; GP4 with Windows 7 64 bit [fixed]

All I needed to do was keep going with installation, & once GPX Patch addon was installed, I could start smelling the fumes from the F1 Cars of GP4!!

Thanks to all!

Windows 7 SP1 64bit

configuring GP4 to run on Windows 7 SP1 64bit successfully

My Machine Specs:-

Custom build
OS Windows 7 SP1 64bit
CPU AMD Fx 8350 8 core (note for Intel cpu's disable hyperthreading)
Motherboard Asus
Memory 16 Gig
Graphics Card Ati radeon 7850

-First download grand prix 4 patch and install it, you can get it from here:-
Official Patch 1.02

-Then download gpxpatch, (not to be confused on the patch above (note gpxpatch enhances the game and can be downloaded here:- SDI Game Utilities: GPxPatch) and install it:-

-Then right click on gpxpatch.exe, then properties and on compatibility tab make it windows xp sp2
And GP4.exe NO compatibility mode.

-check the following checkboxes on both exe files:-

disable visual themes
disable desktop composition
disable display scaling on high DPI settings
run this program as an administrator

Run gpxpatch.exe, click on Start GPx button
-In games menu, click on Options and then Graphics, deselect the following:-

-arcade overlays
-tv overlays
-video walls
-click on the Advanced option and select manual, and set everything to full.

Then test button (on fast PC you should get close to 60fps, click on test 2 to 3 times to get better result if you can with the fps) Then on Frame rate slider, set it to 30fps from 60fps or half of what the maximum is.
(this will make the processor work less and the game will still run super fast)

exit the game and save it on the way out.

Next set the game resolution to 1920 x 1080, open this file with notepad:-

And configure the following:-

1 ; f1graphics.cfg controls all settings (default 0) note:- make this 1
1920 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Horizontal Resolution
1080 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Vertical Resolution

-And these leave as 800 x 600:-

800 ; [DEBUG] Game 3D Vertical Resolution
600 ; [DEBUG] Game 3D Vertical Resolution

Save the file and close it.

-Disable Antivirus and firewall (for lan play)
-And all other programs that might popup during game play, example like video card updates, java updates, windows updates, typically this is at the bottom right in taskbar.
-make sure you have the latest video drivers installed, cause sometimes the older or existing drivers have bugs

Run gpxpatch.exe again, you will see tabs:- GPxPatch, GPxSet, GPxTrack, GPxLap, GPxSAT, GPxCInfo and GPxSound.
Under the GPxPatch tab when you tick all those other tabs mentioned , it will enable them into the game.
tick all the checkboxes.

Now this is the important bit, when you use one cpu, i.e Use CPU = 0 under the GPxPatch tab, the game runs just fine, no crashes, the only problem is when you do multiplayer using tcp/ip, the game is unplayable, this is because selecting one cpu doesn't gaurantee that cpu will be only for GP4, read this here:-

Method 0: Not a good method (Processor Affinity)
Anything that otherwise involves Processor Affinity isn't a good option, I'm afraid. Processor affinity is a clue to the processor. The processor is not obliged to respect it, and often will not.

(and he is right)

So what was the big breakthrough after weeks of trying this and that, it was this from the above url:-

Method 2: Force an entire Windows Session (Vista/7)

Type:- (bcdedit /set onecpu on) from command prompt
Reboot the system.
When you are done playing, type 2 - Type: bcdedit /set onecpu off and reboot again.

When you open taskmanager you will notice only one cpu.
Multiplayer runs great now. And NO MORE CRASHES

##Additional Info:-

Get this if you want realistic clouds, etc 2001 Trackpack:-

And this for 2004 to 2010 season cars:-
Simuladores de Corridas Virtuais: GP-4 - Car.wad 2004
(note CSM tool not required)

In multiplayer you can let the AI take control of your car by hitting space bar or P key depending if your using a steering wheel or not. For multiplayer using TCP/IP check this article on increasing network performance in windows 7:-
