Lol true but you can do well with a $5 gaming mouse where you can at least change the DPI
It also depends on what game your playing eg: a mouse with 2-3 buttons on the side is better for an FPS where as a mouse with 20-30 buttons on the side is better suited to an MMORPG.

Didn't know $5 gaming mice with adjustable DPI existed.

But I know what you're trying to say, frankly I never used the adjustable DPI function on my MX518/G400, the placement of those buttons (especially the +) aren't in a ergonomically reachable position compared the thumb buttons.

I gamed fine on the very first optical mice, although I must admit that the addition of the browser/thumb buttons was godsend.

I bought a Razer Diamondback and was very impressed with its functions and programmability and used it for many years racing buggys in There.com untill I wore out the right click. I was so impressed with its performance I bought the Razer Tarantula keyboard thats got its own ram in it, best keyboard I've ever owned. Its so good (IMO) that I found a 2nd one on Ebay and have it in the closet incase this one gives up the ghost inwhich it hasn't yet after 5 years of good hard gaming.
I replaced the worn out Diamondback with a Razer Imperator and been just as happy with its programmability and functions and haven't had any issues with it at all.
Anybody can think they can game with a high end mouse but you also need a good keyboard to partner up with the mouse if your gamming.
I would recommend Razer mice and keyboards to anybody who is looking for a great programmable, reliable product.

No one I know uses Logitech's Setpoint software and most kb/mice software is gimmicky to begin with, and frankly if you had problems with setpoint v4.00 you could have easily downgraded to a version that worked. Don't know why you needed setpoint software for the MX518 in the first place since all the functions, except the default DPI button, work without it. :rollleyes:

You're going off topic with the whole keyboard advertisement on a gaming mouse thread, hence the Razer rep smell.

I don't hold Razer in high regard because the materials they use are sub-par and bottom shelf vs other brands. Razer is a marketing company like Bose and Beats. Mediocre products with a mainstream following. Just like their Razer booth gaming girls, looks nice on the outside but devoid of any substance and knowledge on the inside. Ask them a question on a game they claim they play and you'll get a lot of ummm, uhhh's, but hey, their purpose is to look attractive in skimpy outfits so single men will buy their products and that's all that matters right?

I don't mean to come down so hard on Razer, just been burned really hard by them, like a $300 burn.

I decided it was time to go mechanical and my friends recommended Razer, it was a brand I heard of but never tried. Their stuff looked fancy and cool so I decided to pick up the Black Widow Ultimate and the Mamba thinking I have the best kb/mouse on the market because $300 for a mouse and kb can't be wrong, right? At that point it was the worst computer related purchase of my life. Razer products are fine until you need to get a hold of their tech support, the definition of stone walling should include Razer in it.

Lets start with the Blackwidow, iONE OEM (their best batches won't live up to a well-made Costar board), the glossy keys feel cheap and they wobbly. Random key entries, missed keystrokes and stuck keys. Synapse is DRM spyware that has to load on startup and requires a active internet connection, not to mention it bricked the keyboard after updating the firmware. Razer tech support kept telling me to reflash the firmware and refused to replace the keyboard. 3 back-lit keys failed after 2 months.

I expected the best from a $130 keyboard, frankly this keyboard is worth no more than $10 USD.



Now the Mamba, they advertise 2 year warranty? more like no warranty and endless run-around hoping you'll give up contacting them.

Wireless mode is a joke at best and even if it works it runs out of juice 4-5hrs into gaming. It eventually stopped working in wireless mode and only worked in wired mode. Then the lights went out, and after 4 months of use the mouse died. Getting a RMA from Razer is like trying to win a lottery. Logitech and Microsoft have far better warranties and dealing with their tech support is much less painful. They also do advanced RMAs and pay for the shipping.

Their moto of For Gamers, by Gamers is complete bull.

After that Razer incident I've become much more informed about OEMs and manufacturing origins.

I'm currently using a CM Storm Trigger brown (Costar board) and Logitech G400.

I still have my old MX510 and MX518 the MX510 is almost 7 years old and looks like it's been through a world war and it's still working like a champ. That's the type of reliability I need, not fancy marketing and pretty booth girls.
