Windows 7: Dark Messiah

The name of the game pretty well describes the problem that I'm having with it. It may start normal or be an unplayable negative of the normal picture...all black and white, and sometimes irradically flashing. If I Ctrl-Alt-Del to display the Task Manager, then return to the game, the picture returns to normal. It will then remain normal until the end of the level, then go black and white again.



I'm about to upgrade the driver, but I really doubt that will help, because I'm already running 195.62 and other games don't have this problem. I've got it running as administrator and in compatibility mode. Is this game a lost cause?

Hi ive been binging and googling for 3 months on and off in my free time and i havent found a patch or fix for this issue yet but i sure hope to for im also having the same exact issue... happens after the game loads into the second level, after that it pretty much does it on everything, menu screen, loading screen, ingame. tried many re-installs, video card drivers versions even old ones. did a complete reformat thinking my machine just needed it since its running the game that bad but still no change. im posting in this thread to hopefully lure others with the same problem in hope to find something to help. ty.

I had just the same problem running windows 7. Solved it by patching it.

steam should automatically patch the game for you. I have the game (not my favorite to say the least, it's 'ok', i guess) and haven't had any such issue. I cant confirm worseelite's conclusion, but it seems to be the most logical action. Another option, would be to open steam, rightclick on the DM icon, and open options. Then find a button called "Set launch options", and add '-dx9' (without quotes), and hit 'Ok'. That seems to fix most display issues with source engine games.. I know HL2, and CS:s need that to run right on my system.

wow i didnt even know they had their own website. failure on my part for googling incorrectly for too long.. lol.. thanks for this information guys im playing it now and it works perfectly. no errors at all.

yea i remember the dx9 launch settings just forgot about them. so im chuckling with victory thanks to you both. got it working perfectly and jumped my FPS 1440x900 everything maxed and still saved 19 frames, some games i dont care for dx10 to run.
