    Problem installing the latest version of DirectX 9


    Good morning,

    Whenever I try to update my Direct X using the DirectX End-User Runtime I get the following error :

    "An internal system error occured. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine problem".

    Where do I go about finding these files ?

    PS

    I know this is Win 7 forums, however I thought I could get help with Vista here as well.


    Thanks in advance. :)

    Also, I reformatted my system today and reinstalled Windows and all of my drivers.

    I am baffled ?

    you are running windows 7 it comes with dx11 already installed. this is most likely why you are getting errors trying to install dx9.

    i caught that after i posted. vista post sp1 should already have dx9c installed. you could try downloading and installing dx10.

    edit: have you check the two logs mentioned in the error message?

    I'm checking them now and I'll post them on here.

    it is a microsoft update. if it is not necessary it should simply be telling you update already installed, or if you have newer it should tell you your files are newer. there is something else going on here. i personally have never had a problem with dx so i am truly at a loss here.

    Try the Redistributable instead of the web installer,

    Download details: DirectX Redist (February 2010)

    After unzipping look in the folder for the dxsetup file (should be the only exe).

I gotta admit, I'm terrible at looking for stuff over @ Microsoft.com. Could anyone be kind enough and point me towards Microsoft's latest DirectX Redistributable installer? Thanks! EDIT: IIRC, the latest is from November I think.
The Registry value InstalledVersion in "LocalMachine\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\DirectX" can not get the right DirectX version, only 9.0, how to get the right one? thank you.
