    Fallout 3 major UI lag

I installed Fallout 3 on this new rig a few days ago, and I made a new character, and made it through the beginning growing up stages, and then when it comes time to go, I experienced, an am experiencing, a major lag from when I do anything on the keyboard and mouse, to when it registers on screen. It may also be pertinent to mention that when I start it up, it says that the windows theme has changed to Windows 7 basic, and that a running program isn't compatible with certain visual elements of windows.

Are you talking about the transistion from the load screen to the game world?

Are your GPU drivers up to date as well as DirectX?

Have you patched the game to v1.7?
Fallout: Welcome to the Official Site

If you got it from D2D theres a special patch you can get from there that patches it to 1.7.

    Im not sure about STEAM.

Switching to compatability mode is a bit odd. Mine doesnt do that ;-/

Well, I haven't connected it to the internet yet, because I haven't purchased an external modem yet; I also assumed the DirectX was up to date. I bought the game just a few days ago from Best Buy, but I'll download it and apply the patcher tonight, it's time for me to go to bed. I'll also test it out, and see if that fixed it.

EDIT: I updated the game, and it didn't help out the lag at all. I'm downloading the latest drivers right now.

Naturalgas, your video card isn't really up to the job of playing such a graphically demanding game as fallout 3.

you'll either have to change all the video settings to minimum and/or try playing at a lower resolution.

although what you really need if you want to play modern games on your pc is a better card...at the very least an hd4850 for fallout 3 at 1920x1080 at high quality settings.

Yeah, I was planning on getting a new video card, probably like a GeForce GFX 285, or something to that measure; I'll also have to get a better PSU. But I thought that might be what it was.
