Online Gaming

Hello, having problems with online gaming - games like Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead 2 and other downloadable (bought from store) games, that include playing online with people from the other side of the world.

Having trouple with ping when online. It is not ISP fault, they have confirmed it and i have, too :
1. SpeedTest.net showed download rate around 11mbit/sec, ISP capable of 12mbit/sec, so that is OK. Upload rate confirms as well.
2. PingTest.net showed - Packet Loss = 0% ; Ping = 10ms ; Jitter = 4
In conclusion, I have an 'Grade A' Internet connetion.

So, I have a perfect Internet, I can download ANYTHING without any problems from the Internet. Statistics (made by me) show that my average download rate is ca. 980kbits/sec.

My ISP tech. support said, that I may have some problems with the parameters set on the network card. Is that possible? If it is, how can I set them correctly?
ISP offered me a specialist, who I can talk via phone and with his/her help, i could set the parameters right. But the call fee is outrageous, and I am not willing to pay that amount of money for a call, that might not even help me out with the problem.

Maybe OS is the problem ???

Hoping we could detect and fix the problem,
DJMango

DJ, welcome to the forums
What firewall are you using? Also, can you complete your system specs with your motherboard and network card, so we can maybe help you with those parameters (for free!)

Your router might not be configured correctly. I couldn't host any online games in any of my games because mine wasn't. Then I enabled port forwarding and everything worked fine.

I am using Windows firewall (if that is what you asked) , I haven't downloaded or set up any other.
How to detect my motherboard? I tried to find it in the Device Manager before, but i failed.
And i should have two network cards (or one of them is driver??)

Anyway, I'll try to fill 'em up for you

Answering your first question, you need to use something like SIW to see the Mobo details: SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala
What you see is the ethernet adapter and your wireless adapter.
First, in device manager, does anything have a yellow triangle beside it?
Have you checked your router configuration as Fred suggested?

Answering your first question, no. Nothing has a yellow triangle beside it and i checked 'em all in the device manager, and all are working properly.
Second, yes I have checked the configuration. Anything that doesn't involve problems with my own computer, is free by my ISP.

Motherboard information and internet cards (in 'Other' tab) updated.

Thanks DJ. I unfortunately can't find any info on that Mobo. I would recommend updating the drivers for your ethernet card, but I can't find anything. Maybe it came with some support site?
Regarding your router, don't you need to set up port forwarding?

DJ, first check if the game is listed as an exception in the Windows Firewall: Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Firewall -> Advanced Settings
If it isn't, include the program, below the instructions.
Let's see if the firewall thing solves it, otherwise we need to find out what router port we need to forward.

that didn't help by much, it reduced ping by 10-20. But it is still well over 300, maybe even 400 .

I'm a HUGE fan of RPG based games. I still play Baldur's Gate (yes, even on Windows 7). So my question is.... What is the best FREE MMORPG? It has to be in depth, i can't handle things that don't have depth, and a decent plotline.... Thanx
