    Oblivion locks up upon exit

I installed Oblivion on 7 build 7000 and the game plays great, but when you exit the game it locks up the game and Windows. I can get to the task manager to end program but nothing happens. I tied to do a reset and nothing happens. I waited for 15+ minutes to see if the game would end and nothing happens. I am forced to do a "hard reset" of the system.
    Can anyone help?

    My System:

    Motherboard: Asus P5KC
    CPU: Intel Q9450
    Memory: 4 GB Crucial Ballistics PC10600 1333MHz DDR3
GPU: EVGA Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS (current 7 x64 drivers)
    Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
    Western Digital Black 1TB HDD
    OS: Windows 7 x64 Build 7000

    You are not alone...

Build 7068 did the same for me, locks on exit. I upgraded to 7077 and had the same issue, kinda blows but saves worked, game works when running etc. so I lived with it.

I have a clean install of 7077 and will give Oblivion another install and go to see what happens...

So far all builds seem to lock on exit for me.

I think it is crashing when it tries to save the graphics options, because everytime I change the graphics settings, in game, they are back to their default "Ultra" settings when I boot the game back up after the exit crash. I could be wrong, but thats my guess as to what is causing the crash.

Hey there, I had this problem as well but found a fix for it. :)

Two user released mods correct both this as well as a large number of other crashes.

Install OBSE, and then download the follow two mods:

Fast Exit. That will allow it to close without crashing.
Oblivion Crash Prevention System. This will stop other random lockups.

Both are just files you drop into the Oblivion\Data\obse\plugins folder and they automatically work. :) Hope that helps guys.

I have this exact same problem. Except there is no clear instructions on how to install those add ons. Where do you put them, there is no obse add ons folder in the data file. OBSE isn't "installed" it is extract and then run.

If your having trouble saving game options - graphics, audio, etc. just open up console with the tilda ~ key and type SAVEINI in all caps, then press enter. The game will freeze for a couple seconds but this action saves your settings to the config files inside Oblivion. I use it everytime I need to save a setting because I have mods that make Oblivion crash on exit. Hope this helps!
