    BattleField 2

    Hi all,

    I brought BattleField 2 about 4 years ago. I also recently upgraded to Win7. I installed BF2 on my old Toshiba. Worked fine with: 1GB RAM, 120GB SATA HD, NIVIDA GeForce 2100, Vista home premium OS.

    Now I have: 4GB RAM, 1 TB HD, NIVIDA GeFore 3600 graphics and 7 home premium OS.

    All drivers updated. DirectX 9.0. The works.

    Here's the problem:

    I put in the installer disk (1)

    All through the setup.
    Comes to the "installing" bit and it jams at about 10/100 the way to the end. Also makes a funny noise (click click click click)(Evil click btw)...The CD wont spin up. It gets stuck at C:\Program files\EA games\BattleField 2\mods\bf2\Common_Clients.zip

    Any help would be great:)

    Cheers, Brian

    Have you tried copying all the files off the disk on to your hard drive and running the setup from there?

    Disk clean? No scratches, dust, greasy finger prints, etc? Sounds like a disk or CD/DVD drive problem than a Windows problem.

    More of a workaround than a solution to the hanging install, but if you still have the old computer with a working BF2 install on it you could transfer the entire BF2 install folder from the old computer to the new. If you do try this you will also have to add the registry entries or the game won't work. Assuming 32 bit Windows (as per your specs) copy the following into Notepad,

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]
    "Language"="English"
    "Locale"="en_US"
    "InstallDir"="X:\\Program Files\\EA GAMES\\Battlefield 2"
    "Version"="1.5"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
    @="x9392xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\wdc]
    @="true"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{0AC087CB-B437-4624-B7E3-693DA53934BB}]
    "DisplayIcon"="X:\\Program Files\\EA GAMES\\Battlefield 2\\bf2.exe"
    "InstallLocation"="X:\\Program Files\\EA GAMES\\Battlefield 2"
    "EstimatedSize"=dword:0000015e
    Where the single X's are, replace them with the drive you place the BF2 folder to. For the multiple x's after the x9392, replace them with the games CD key. Assuming the working install is patched to version 1.5 you can leave the version string alone, if it wasn't patched to 1.5 change that number to what it was patched too, then install the 1.5 patch after adding the registry entries.

    Then save the whole thing as bf2.reg (must be saved as .reg, not .txt), once saved double click on the bf2.reg file to add it to the registry, and the game should work. About the only other thing you will need to do is to create a shortcut from the exe in the BF2 folder and place it on the desktop, or it can be added to the Windwos Games folder as well.
