Problems with Total Annihilation I have a laptop which has Total Annihilation installed. Every time I start the game or try to play a game, the image does not display correctly. I've tried many things such as changing the compatibility mode, disabling themes, and others. A couple of months back the game all of a sudden worked with no problems but then they reoccurred. Any help is appreciated. thanks. | My System Specs |

Hi Sgt Pickles,
This reminds me of an issue with C&C Red Alert in Windows 7... try killing explorer.exe in Task Manager, then restarting the game. Let me know if that does anything...
Cheers,
Walker

I tried it and it worked. Thanks Walker. I have one more question. Is there a fix to this so I won't have to keep doing that every time I want to play? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony VAIO VGN-NW226F/B Laptop OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit CPU Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 2.1GHz processor Memory 3GB DDR2 Graphics Card Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD Sound Card Hi-Definition (HD) Audio Support Monitor(s) Displays 15.5" 1366 x 768 Hard Drives 320GB HDD 5400 RPM |

from what i recall, TA was DX6 (i think) back in the day.
you did install the directx-redistributable package...?
i havent had an issue with the main screen (havent run the game on 7 though).
last guess/idea, patch 3.1c installed? (if it helps any, i just copied the Cavedog\TA directory over from an old XP install and ran TotalA.exe without any reinstall or anything...) | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Core i7 960 Motherboard ASUS P6TD Deluxe Memory Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 - 12 GB Graphics Card eVGA GTX 275 1792 MB Sound Card Onboard HD etc Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2208WFP Keyboard MS Natural (you know, like the ones you find in nature...) If Packet's idea doesn't work (thx for helping dude), you might be able to create a batch file that kills the explorer.exe process whenever you activate the TA shortcut. I have no idea how to do that, though :/

Walker

Old thread, i know, but i finally ran TA on 7 - ran without any issue whatsoever.
looking closely at your screenshots, it appears to me that you're in 256 colour mode somehow.
try running totala.exe directly instead of any shortcut?
also, can you disable aero and try the game? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Core i7 960 Motherboard ASUS P6TD Deluxe Memory Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 - 12 GB Graphics Card eVGA GTX 275 1792 MB Sound Card Onboard HD etc Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2208WFP Keyboard MS Natural (you know, like the ones you find in nature...) After doing some research months ago; I found out that the problem was with the wallpaper changer, so I just disabled it from changing wallpapers. So yeah it was Aero interfering with the game.
