    Wit's End over performance issues

Ok, so I'm going to go insane over this computer.

I have a year old Asus laptop that about a week or two ago started experiencing slowdowns while gaming. At first I thought it was a internet related issue, as I was on wireless and I was seeing pings of 300ish (I had these pings for a while, no slowdown, so I never worried about it). I tried to wire the laptop into the router, no effect, and I reduced the ping to about 30 m/s by gutting SafeEyes from my computer.

Next, I updated all the drivers on the computer and got all the windows updates to no effect. I lowered the graphics settings on my games, no effect. The only thing that seems to help is to shut off the computer, and upon startup I can get about 30mins of uninterrupted play before I get the first slowdown, at which point they start up.

It happens regardless of online/offline play, and I currently experience it on Savage 2, Heroes of Newerth, and Black & White 2. I'm reinstalling World of Warcraft to see if it suffers from the issue. Normal programs don't seem to suffer, and I can play a N64 emulator with no problem (maybe not a graphics specific problem).

    Specs:
    OS:Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (build 7600) (Originally Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
    System:

    2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    64-bit ready
    Multi-core (2 total)
    Not hyper-threaded
    Circuit Board
    : ASUSTeK Computer Inc. G50V 1.0
    Bus Clock: 167 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 202 06/13/2008
189.56 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
91.10 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
HGB TE30XEJO1E SCSI CdRom Device [CD-ROM drive]
    HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L ATA Device [CD-ROM drive]
    ST9200420AS [Hard drive] (200.05 GB) -- drive 0, s/n 5SH051FG, rev 3.AAA, SMART Status: Healthy

Graphics card: GeForce 9700m GT 512mb

I'll try anything. Maybe something is physically slowing it down? Dirt or overheating?

I'd suggest that you do some line testing to be absolutely sure that it's not your connection doing the damage, but from what it sounds like it's not your line, be safe though.

Smokeping monitors your line for 24 hours to check for latency issues

Do a speed test at startup, and then do one when your problem starts

If possible, you should also take your router out of the equation for these tests because they're next to impossible w/ it in. It'll also tell you if the router is to blame.

Come back and report it when you get results.

I'm running the smokeping, I can't do the line quality test, it says member only, maybe I'm clicking the wrong link. As for the speed test...

I wasn't even expecting that. I mean, it's with a computer not doing anything, but still.
