Hi and welcome to the forums.
Please can you fill in your System Specs under User CP it would really help us out when it comes to solving problems, especially this one.

I think this problem can occur when running in a 64bit version of Windows or when system just isn't up to standard.

I would also like to know whether you are running it off a disc or an image file (ISO).

Post back when you've filled in your System Specs and I might be able to help you further.

    Oli

It can be a hard game to run GTA 4, even if you pass the requirements, it can still run slow.

Like what osholt said, fill in your system specs, and make sure graphic drivers are up to date. Try running the game graphics with a lower resolution and graphic settings as well.

I had this issue. It did not go away untill I reformatted killing my old xp partition. I also turned off unused services and such. Try Vsync or try turning off vsync (depending if its on or off).

A thing that I have noticed is GTA4 does like being one of the first things installed after a clean Windows install. It does seem to play slightly better like this.

It was one of the first things I did. I installed street fighter 4 first actually. But all my games go through steam.

    The game is a POS!!
I upgraded to the latest patch and it is laggy as crap.
I restored my Windows 7 image and wont install it or ANY game the requires game for windows live either.
I see GTA iv for 19 bucks now, absolute garbage.
Also the new update gives a lame menu for games you need to buy, but don't have, what a stupid eyesore.

Rockstar sucks dead baby goats now.

The latest patch nearly doubled my fps in GTA4, never had a problem with GFWL on it, and I don't get this "crappy menu" with games to buy

The last patch may be what fixed it for me. I went from 38fps to like 50 in benchmark. The patch is fine.

the patch did however make it say my cd key was incorrect, but it fixed it once it logged into rockstar games.
