Good game, simple install solution

I hate to respond to a post that's this old, but I had this exact same problem today, and found a simple solution. During the Far Cry install, choose to leave out DirectX 9.0b, especially if you have a newer version. I found that leaving this option unchecked allowed the install to move forward. Somehow the installer has an issue with the newer DirectX already on my PC. (Honestly don't understand from above how the patch helps to fix the install - doesn't the patch come after the installation?)

Actaully you do want to install DirectX. If the files are newer, it won't install, but if the files aren't updated, you may need to have them (DX) installed. See #5 & 6 here - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

And yes, the patch comes after the game is installed; and no one said the patch helps install the game, we said the patch helps the game run, especailly on a 64-bit OS.

far cry installer issues

Just signed up for this forum because I found this thread (old though it is) which kind of matches my problem, which is:

Just bought old Far Cry from Ubisoft. Installed it and the 1.4 upgrade on my Intel Windows 7 64bit PC. Install seemed to go fine. It gave me an error during startup of Far Cry saying that I need a driver (Tages?) upgrade because the one installed during the install is incompatible. It tells me to run the driver upgrade (via execution of Far Cry?) as admin. So I do, but it does not recognize me as admin and says I don't have enough privileges.

Anybody have and solve this problem? (I have contacted Ubisoft, but am waiting for their reply).

jerztarheel, welcome to the Seven Forums.

This should be what you need to update Tages to work with Windows 7,

TAGES, the AAA Copy Protection System

I uninstalled Far Cry and reinstalled it without installing the 1.4 fix. That worked and I can now run Far Cry without issues. No call for TAGES as long as I didn't install the 1.4 patch.

Thanks to all for posting your comments and questions here. It is very helpful when investigating problems.
