But will typing fps_max 30 make it worse?

Ill give it a try, see what happens.

    Update :

Ok, after trying for days i found the problem.

Its my sound card drivers. If i uninstall them the game runs fine, constant 20fps with no sound, but if i install sound drivers it lags again.

My Card is aCreative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs. I tried the latest drivers, modded drivers to no avail. I have a realtek onboard sound card so i tried that to see if it was my audigy. Guess what same problem. No drivers runs fine, with drivers runs terrible.

    What can be causing this?
20fps on the card you have? Im wondering did you turn the 7 firewall of completly, and the sound cards drivers, defo a strange one. Glad you got it sorted though

    85.8.132.239:27055

Go to that server, open console and type
    net_graph 1

Note the fps over a 5 min period
    then type
    net_graph 0

then tell me what the ave fps was on that server.
Also what drivers for your card are u using?
I know that you mentioned that removing sound card drivers helped. However have u got all the motherboard drivers installed?

Ok, i went on the server you supllied (Assault) and played about 5mins.

My Ping was about 40 when joined. I could play the game then it would Spike to about 145 then down to 80 odd then to 40 then couple mins later it would spike again. Tried putting Fps_max 50 but that didnt work still same problem.

Im using 185.85 Win 7 drivers. All my drivers are installed apart from chipset drivers, which Windows 7 installed for me, Downlaoeded the ones for vista but they never install always say latest version is installed.

    Hi,
ive just tried that server too ( hard not to i own it lol) and my ping is a constant 35-40. No lag spikes. Mmm i would defo say network card however you said that when sound drivers are removed then its ok.

Ill keep thinking about it. Good thing about zero and cs source is usually most probs can be sorted out.

Ok mate, ive spoken to someone who knows pretty much everything about Counter strike, and knows a shed load about Win 7 and he had the EXACT same problem. It turned out to be his mobo. He is 99% certain its the same in your case, just a little incompatability makes a big diff
