Get Portal for free here! (Requires Steam to be installed) NOTE (5/12/2010): Currently the servers are being hammered, so those who have not so great internet connections may want to wait until tomorrow or the day after to download this game. NOTE (5/13/2010): Servers are starting to catch up and letting download speeds stay stable. Please keep in mind that the game WILL require Steam to play, if you remove Steam after installing Portal, you wont be able to play Portal.

Everyone should have this. I'm downloading it right now and I was getting as low as 8b/s at one point. It's a fun little game for a few hours, you'll like it if you're into puzzles and such. It also comes free w/ most Valve game packs. If you're looking for decent Valve multiplayer games, the most popular is Team Fortress 2, a great game. Counter-Strike: Source is good as well but not quite as popular as TF2 nowadays.
EDIT: Information Oops!
Been using Steam for so long that I forgot to mention the old trick that we use to speed up downloads when servers are busy!
Simply go into your Steam settings and change your location to something other than the nearest one (that is if you're in a populated area). For example, I normally use the New York server but if it's busy I'll switch to Wasington DC or another server to try and speed up my download
