The Sims 2 won't start installation at all

To cut a long story short I uninstall the sims 2 and lots of other programmes as I had to wipe my computer due to a virus it got, I then decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and install The Sims 2 back onto my computer afterwards. I managed to install The Sims 3 perfectly so I thought The Sims 2 would install without any problems and you could say that... considering the fact it refuses to install at all!

I can type in the serial code and what language I want the settings to be in but I can't actually start the actual installation of the game since the installation pop up won't appear. I've also been in the task manager and AutoRun.exe is there but it doesn't do anything, it kinda just... sits there. Is there anything I can do?

OH and the game installs fine on my Mum's laptop and other games and CD's work fine on my laptop, just not The Sims 2.

When Vista first come out, to install on Vista you needed to download the update, check on the SIMS web site for update for Win7.
