Ah thanks a lot Stew, that's cleared up a lot of questions I still had floating around my head. Next step is to buy the RAM ;P The timings I use should match what is on the module/s right? No need to change them?
For example if I went for http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...6-8500C5D.html - I should run it at 5-5-5-15 at 2.1-2.3v? Then just focus on the CPU and NB voltages/settings?
That's the same type i have except mine are 1 gig sticks. With mine i run them at 900 with timings of 4-4-4-12 at 2.0v. Every pc's different but if you run them under 900 you should be able to run them with something similar to mine and if its over 900 your safer sticking to 5-5-5-15 at 2.1v.
When you first install them then run them with the timings of 5-5-5-15 and at 2.1v to just make sure it works properly, so as you say you can then focus on the cpu and northbridge and then if its possible you can tighten timings and lower volts to the ram.
EDIT: oh and mine cost over £400 when i bought them. Dont you just hate computers lol.
Ah I get it ^^ Yea, the depreciation of computer components is ridiculous lol. I remember spending over £300 on a Radeon 9800 Pro before I switched to Nvidia ;P
Yea, you may not be able to tighten timings once you get the 900ish + range but ...
if you are able to set the RAm at 800 5-5-5-15 for example, by the time you start setting the FSB speeds and get where you want, youll likely be in the 900+ range as Stew said.
With the faster FSB speeds, you'll quite likely end up with better bandwidth on the RAM even though its only running CAS 5 and 900ish mhz than 1066.
