    Counter Strike DLL file error

Besides my computer getting a virus that I hope is gone now, Counter Strike says it is unable to load a DLL file. Any ideas on how to fix this? I tried deleting it after turning off Steam (since it says steam is using the file), but it comes back and stops the game every time. Help? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about.

Try reinstalling the game. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling both the game and steam. (This looks like a steam DLL missing, so you might need to reinstall Steam)

If that fails, uninstall them both, open command prompt (run as admin) and type:
    sfc /scannow
    Then reinstall everything.

Let me try the sfc first and then work at the reinstall process. It takes quite a long time to do installs. I'll let you know how it goes. Nice latin phrase in the sig btw. I took latin for 3 years. I see you are quite into Descartes as well.

Well, looking at your picture it appears that it is a STEAM DLL file missing. Since the sfc /scannow command only repairs windows DLLs, I don't think it will fix it.

I don't take latin, but I do know what it means. I read part of his writings in Humanities class this year, and it kind of stuck with me. In an odd way, it sort of fits my mentality with the universe. Thus the sig.

Still can't hurt to do the scan first just to see if it works. I got time. Anyways, we covered Descartes in Philosophy class this year. Pretty good stuff, though his metaphysics and epistimology are quite contradictory. He's not a bad philosopher on the whole. Very interesting to read.

This probably isn't going to be any help, but...
I have had that same issue many times using windows 7 ultimate x64 so reasons I haven't figured out as of yet...

    I'll let ya know, though.

The thing is this is the first time it has happened that I can remember. Perhaps the virus through something out of whack in my steam folder or maybe I did something. It shouldn't be a hard fix and it shouldn't happen that often. I've only come across DLL errors rarely and have been able to fix them every time so far. This should be the case for this one as well. Hope you find a fix.

Well, I tried the sfc /scannow and it found no problems, but for some reason CS:S works now. So, I'm just going to take that as a good sign that something changed on restart and after the scan and the game is fine again now. Thanks for the help.

Hah. Well, it is possible it patched the DLL or something.

I still think reinstalling Steam would have fixed it, but glad it works for now.

We didn't go too deep into Descartes, but he was an interesting read. My teacher was amusing, always asking if anyone had the guts to do what he did.
Though I think his base fundamental theory is incorrect and flawes (it REQUIRES God to work), it does bring into light interesting concepts. Some of which I firmly believe in (from before I knew about him)

Well, I'm not sure it required God to work completely. First off, he was trying to come up with a reason to believe in the existence of God rather than just defaulting to a religious view. By trying to use logic, he could come to know God existed, and then once he knew that he could presume other things with God in the picture. So I wouldn't say it required God essentially, but many parts of it do. Anyways, I always try find an easier solution for something like a DLL file rather than reinstalling the whole game. Saves a lot of time.
