Crash on Battlefield 2 on windows 7 64xbit

I love windows 7, its easy to use and all but i also love bf2 i played it so much on my old computer that had windows xp but when it came to the time that i needed to upgrade to my new computer i chose to get 4GB, but it turns out u need a 64 bit operating system for that, so instead of getting windows xp 64bit i went with the best OS on the market currently (i believe) windows 7 64bit.
I have seen several different ways of fixing this on other forum and one here, but im not sure if they have the same 64 bit problem or what.
So what im asking is for a detailed step by step way to install it on there as the 1.5 patch has known to have compatibility issue with my OS.
Like a mod or deleting and adding certain files.
If u could simplify it as much as u can it would help.
