Warcraft 3 frozen throne and reign of chaos

    Hey guys,

I just bought a new laptop and it came with windows 7. I am having some problems with it as when I run Warcraft III it has alot of lag spikes. When I do /fps i get 50-60 fps consistently and it suddenly plunges to 6fps for 3 secs. This happens throughout the game even in single player campaigns. I have tried disabling desktop composition, running as administrator, running in compatibility, updating to directx 11, updating my graphic drivers and disabling my anti virus but to no avail. Can someone kindly help me with this problem. I do not think that it has to do with my RAM as I am able to play World of Warcraft without experiencing such lag spikes.

    Thanks for your help!

It sounds like something is scheduled in the background to run at a fixed interval and that this application takes up a lot of system resources, apparently those that would affect Warcraft more than WoW..

Try to check via "msconfig" > Startup what applications are automatically started at the system start, try disabling all and rebooting your system (you may actually disable something you need, but you'll find that best by trying). See then if the problem persists, if not you can enable programs one by one until you found the culprit.

If you like, post a screenshot of the programs in startup and we can help you pick which to disable and which not.

At least I know it should be possible to play without any lag, I play Warcraft III FT on my Windows 7 install on a very low grade laptop, and even I don't have lag.

    Dear James,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I disabled all the startup programs and restarted and the lag still persisted. Any other suggestions?
