C&C: generals graphics textures problem

Hello everyone,

I've recently installed windows 7 pro 32 bits on my computer and I can't get C&C: generals to work properly... The problem is that the ground is all white in the game. Buildings, hills, cars, ... all display normal but the ground textures are not. So basically the game is playable but isn't nice ofc :s

Hardware:

- MSI k8n neo4 platinum motherbord (NVidia Nforce 4 chipset)
- AMD athlon 64 3800+ processor (+ zalman cooler)
- NVidia GForce 7800 GTX (+ arctic cooling compatible cooler)
- 2 GB DDR RAM
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
- 2 x HDD (200gb sata and 320 gb sata -> seagate)
- Pioneer DVD writer/floppy disk/card reader
- Antec case

Ok, first of all I know that my hardware isn't the best, but C&C: generals should play just fine as it did on XP as well I've installed C&C: generals as well as the expansion Zero Hour. Both games run, but show the same texture problem...

What I've done to try and fix it:

- Downloaded and installed the following latest drivers: NVidia graphics driver for the GPU, Creative sound driver for the sound card, Realtek AC'97 drivers updated, directX 9.0 (june 2010 latest version)
- Tryed to run in compatibility mode with XP SP2 and XP SP 3 and also to run as administrator
- Tryed the fix with the options.ini file in the Generals Data folder without succes

I regularely play this game with friends on a local LAN-party and this game just rocks so I realy would like to get it fixed properly on my windows 7 pro 32 bits system.

If anyone can help me plz, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Steph.

Try removing the games, then install them with admin in compatibility mode.

how?

Hey, first of all thanks for the reply but how exactly can I install a game under admin rights? I mean I am an administrator while installing the game... And for what I know about Windows 7 you can run games/programs in compatibility mode and admin rights but installing them in compatibility mode never heard of that

So plz little more explanation plz

Thanks, steph.

Have you tried updating your DirectX files???

From my Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues...

"5 - Update your Direct X files - Contrary to popular belief, just because Windows 7 is DX11 capable doesn’t mean it has the latest DX9 files!!! Most game issues can be fixed by simply updating the DX files."

You might want to look it over for more suggestions.

Good luck.

I have seen it work.
It doesn't pay to be disrespectful.

Hello there,

first of all thanks for responding here in this thread to my problem

I have indeed read your post about troubleshooting game issues and as my first post also says, I have installed the latest DX 9.0 version (juli release) and still it doesn't work properly...

I also doubt that DX will have anything to do with the graphics issue but non the less I've tried it.

Do I have to try any other releases of DX? Do you recommend anything else?

thanks in advance, steph

It's all in the guide. Updates, tips, troubleshooting

You might also try checking out some of the game's fourms; also mentioned in the guide ...

17 - Check for known issues – Some games have known issues that may have a work around or temp fix provided by the game publisher or gamers themselves. Check the game publisher's website or forums.

18Visit the game’s forums – While we have a wealth of knowledge here, sometimes we need a specialist. I’d expect Bethesda to know more about Fallout 3 then most of us here… just as I’d expect Windows 7 forum to know more about the OS than a game’s website.

BTW... did you try Lordbob's suggestion?
