    Windows 7 and Diablo2

i cant get my diablo 2 to work w/ windows 7. i purchased a new laptop ( gateway ) and it came with windows 7. Idot at best buy told me all my games would work fine, well they dont.

i tried to play diablo 2 and at first i could play a few minets and it would shut off.
then i jsut gave up for a while... i played today for about 2 hrs just fooling around and stuff. i killed blood raven and it froze.... restarted my comp and played again, killed blood raven again and it froze, did this 4 times!!!

i really love my laptop but i HATE windows 7. i plan on getting diablo 3 and starcraft 2 and want to play the older games to get in the mood for the new ones.

i read several articals and help pages to help me out but i cant figure it out. any one please help????

make it very simple to follow please!! not too computer literate.

thinking of just using my old laptop for games too, would XP work with the new games coming out?

also want to say i wont have internet for a while... i will be using my phone to reply.

    Main solutions:

    1. Set the program to run in compatibility mode.
    2. Close any Virtual Drives you may have running.
    3. Close any Over-clocking tools you may have running.

There is a ton of info in sygnus21's post you will find useful and in addition to his suggestions I would point out another part of his post that might be of help for your specific problem:

16 - Compatibility Mode – Compatibility mode allows older games or programs that worked under earlier versions of Windows to run in Windows 7 (maybe). If you find you’re having a hard time running or installing the game, give compatibility mode a try. See this tutorial on running in Compatibility Mode.

try installing Diablo II in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode

No idea how to do this.... im starting to think my d2 game is messed up, today I installed it on my parents older co.puter that has Windows 98 on it. During installation it kept saying it had have some error. Well after a while of trying, it finally installed. I played for bout 20 min and it froze up, just like it did on my laptop with win7 on it. Could it just be a messed up disc?

I'm thinking of just putting Vista onto my laptop and calling it quites. Can some one out there please give detailed instructions on how to change compatible mode? Thanks.

I thinking that your Diablo disk might be corrupted. The game might lack some maps or running file that make the game running not properly. If it is the case, if you can figure it out what files are missing, I can try to upload it to you, because I have Diablo II in my computer too
Also, try using troubleshooting with compatibility mode that SleeStak and Whoo suggest

    Good luck
