Problem launching game - "Unable to terminate process" may be related
Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me find a solution to this problem that doesn't involve doing another clean install of Windows 7, so here we go.
I've been playing a game called Silk Road Online on and off on my laptop, and suddenly one day (maybe after windows updates, I'm not sure) when I tried to launch the game, I'd get an error saying "Please execute the silkroad.exe" and then it just shuts down. I know this error is a little vague, so I'll try to give a little background on what I understand of the game's launching process.
Silkroad.exe is an application that simply runs the game launching page / updater. Once I hit the start button, Silkroad.exe is supposed to close, and another file called sro_client.exe which is the actual game is supposed to boot up along with gameguard.
What I've noticed when using task manager is that silkroad.exe is not closing and appears to be what gives me this error. Although I've found no real fix, I did see a workaround for the problem which involved using the task manager to end the silkroad.exe process immediately after pressing the start button allowing sro_client.exe to be the only file running. I've managed to use this workaround once successfully, but when I try to use this workaround now it says "Unable to terminate process."
I have tried uninstalling in reinstalling the game several times and I have tried scanning for viruses, spyware, and malware in safe mode coming up empty. One thing I did find curious though is that the game does start properly in safe mode, but does not fully execute since my graphics card isn't active in safe mode.
If anyone has any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this, it would be greatly appreciated. :)
