Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer won't start

Hi guys,

I just got COD an hour ago, and singleplayer works fine. But when I try to go into multiplayer, it says:

"It appears that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare did not quit properly last time it ran.
Do you want to run the game in safe mode?.."

If I click yes, it goes to a black screen with a blue loading circle that lasts forever until I end the task. If I click no, it goes to the same black screen for a few seconds, then goes back to my desktop.

I have tried running as admin, and running it in xp sp3 compatibility mode.

I have also installed the 1.7 patch and downloaded punkbuster and added COD4 to it.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

if you have either headphones or a mic plug it in or if you don't go into your sound options and in the recording right click and show disabled and enable stereo mix.
