    The Punisher(help)

Well the other day I decided to dust The Punisher off and install it. I absolutely love the game. I think it has good interaction with the environment. So I installed the game and everything went good until I tried starting the game up and all it did was crash. I have tried reinstalling the game. Changing the resolution and messing around with some other options to try and start up the game but nothing. I have tried running it as Administrator and setting the compatibility to XP but nothing at all seems to work. I have read around and people have said it will only run with Direct X 8 is this true? But none the less I could use some help if any one can. Thank you!

I don't think you need to use DirectX 8 exclusively...that would be a bit outrageous.

Are there any patches/updates for the game? If so have you applied them?

Does the game instantly crash or does it at least draw a window/go into fullscreen?

Well I would think that too, to be quite honest.

The launcher starts up and It goes into full screen and I can see just the title screen "The Punisher" and the Dev team. Then It goes black and an error report comes up. I have checked for updates but there sadly have been none for The Punisher so Version 1 is the only one.

Graphics card have the latest driver?

Do you know if there is a switch that would allow the game to start in windowed mode? Some older games don't run fullscreen on Windows 7 but do fine in windowed mode. (example: "game.exe /window" or "game.exe -window")

I installed the newest drivers last night and that did nothing. I will try the windowed mode to see if that will change anything.

    Edit:

I have found out the game will only run in 256 colors I find that strange.. but I guess this is resolved thanks.

Actually you do need to update the direct X files.

5 - Update your Direct X files - Contrary to popular belief, just because Windows 7 is DX11 capable doesn’t mean it has the latest DX9 files!!! Most game issues can be fixed by simply updating the DX files.

BTW - Windows 7 is fully compatible with games and hardware that use older versions of DirectX

While Windows 7 is fully compatible with games and hardware that use older versions of DirectX, the new DirectX 11 features are available with a DirectX 11 compatible graphics card and games designed to take advantage of this new technology.

Sorry, No I have already tried updating my Direct X files and it still does not work. The game already states that my Direct X files are up to date anyways.

The problem is still active by the way it worked once but now it will not work again.

Why don't you tell us what you tried, and what you did to make it not work anymore?

Also, just because the "game" says the Direct X files are up to date, doesn't mean "Windows 7" files are up to date. Remember.... that's an old game.

Outside of that, I would suggest searching the internet to see if anyone got the game running under Windows 7 and finding out what they did to get it running.

Just because Windows 7 is new doesn't mean every old game wll run on it. Sorry.

And you might want to check out this thread just for gee-wiz info... https://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/25...atibility.html

Sorry Sygnus, I have already posted what I have tried above all of your posts, and yes I have even followed your link to the microsoft website to download Direct X files it still did not work.

    -Reinstalled the game
    -Updated my drivers
    -Installed Direct X files
    -Run as administrator
-Run in windows XP service pack 2 compatibility
    -Run in 256 colors
    -Run in 640x480

And none of those have worked.

Thanks. Like a said earlier, look around the web and see if anyone has gotten the game to run on Windows 7, find out what they did to make it work. That's the only suggestion I have left.

Again, there are lots of older games that don't work under Windows 7, or some require hacks or whatever just to get them working half way decent.

    Check the web.

    Good luck.
