Even though there was only 8 minutes between your posts, this is the perfect example of why "always connected" DRM will never work. Some people have slow internet (for example, right now I have to rely on my tethered phone for my everyday internet usage), and some people have crappy ISPs that drop connections way to often.

Even though I went out and bought AC2, I went and found a way to be able to play offline, because I don't think that it's up to Ubisoft to tell me when I can or can't play my game.

Also, a few years from now, when they shut down the AC2 servers, what will people do? I still play the original GTA and GTA II from time to time, so I imagine that 5 or 10 years from now, people will still want to play AC2. Will Ubisoft issue a patch to remove the DRM before they shut down the servers? Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

I did the same. I bought AC2, but I had to find other means of being able to get around the DRM because my connection at Uni blocks port 80 for security reasons, which is the same port DRM programs such as what Ubisoft's DRM uses so there was no chance of me being able to play with the "always connected" crap.

    and the vicious cycle begins
they add drm, so people try harder to pirate, they take off the drm, pirates have an easier time pirating

its lose lose for everyone. we get less games and i cry a little inside because companies just give up

I'm all for some form of DRM. These people work hard to make these games, and should get paid for it. However, I'm not for draconian methods of DRM, such as the one on AC2.

There was a period a few months ago where I didn't have internet for over a month. If I had had the game back then, I wouldn't have been able to play it. That's not protecting against piracy...that's screwing your customers.

well im lookign at both sides. i kinda forgot to put the gamers side. Although when AC2 DRM has a constant connection and is not down its actually great. it saves your saves online and all that stuff. the only problem is Internet problems and server problems. theres also the rick of Ubi going out of business.

but all in all its not really as bad as it is made out.... that is then it works.
