Acer Aspire 5610 Vista laptop to Win 7 - possible?

My Acer Aspire 5610-4648 is not listed in the Acer site's compatability list for an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. The Acer support says that a change of operating system for this model is not supported. The Microsoft Win 7 upgrade advisor has no objections.

After reading all available posts that I could find, I did not find any posts of success, yet the difference in technology should not be that great. The areas of concern to me are for the Acer-supplied applications such as the Enpowering Technology, and especially the wireless manager.

Has anyone had success with this upgrade and are willing to share their experience?

    Thanks!

Sony said mine CAN NOT run Wds7 at all .... but I did a clean install anyway and it works perfectly fine ..
I also used all vista drivers "32bit" for new windows .. So i think you are fine.
    Look at my specs ....

I guess he is reffering to the software that is included on the OEM installs of Acer PC's... nothing to worry about, if you are running Vista, 7 will fly.

    See ya!!

A clean install will work on pretty much any system than can run Vista.

I just got an Acer 5680, and it accepted a clean install of Win7.

You lose any Acer technology applications as it formats the hard drive.

    Thanks all!
The upgrade is to W7 Home Premium using the standard Microsoft dvd and not an Acer-supplied.

Sounds like time to bite the bullet - will post results for others.

According to Dell my computer can't support Windows 7 or any 64 bit OS, yet the new version of this computer, which has almost the exact same hardware does. So I made sure my CPU was 64 bit capable and installed it. I had a rough time finding all the right drivers, but everything works like a dream.

to be honest, any comp can run windows 7 juat it may not be supported by the manufacturer and some drivers may not be available but vista uses the same driver model as 7 so there'd be no reason not to upgrade, and good luck caprock! ;-)
