Text drops out of dialog boxes

For some reason, the text is not showing up in the dialog boxes, which makes it impossible to download software unless you have a VERY good memory about where the "Next" button is. The buttons show, but absolutely no text. Anyone had this problem? Is it the registry? A driver? It just started when I booted up.

Text dropped out of dialog boxes

For some reason, the dialog boxes are no longer showing text, just the buttons. Can someone tell me why? I uninstalled and reinstalled Java and JRE, but that didn't work. I tried all the personalization stuff, and that didn't work. I can't figure out why this would happen, since nothing new occurred. Anyone experience this?

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before the troubles began.

Generally speaking it isnt a good idea to make duplicate posts with the same problem. It divides the possible responses and gets confusing for those answering. Just a fyi for the future.

Is this in one specific browser only? does it do the same thing when you boot in safe mode?

Do you by chance have a backup from before the problem started that we can restore from?

Do you have a win 7 dvd (working) to do a repair install from?

Thanks and sorry for the duplication. I got a message that said where I first posted wasn't live any longer, so I ended up switching to general discussion.

The problem with a system restore is that I have no text in the dialog boxes that talk you through it. It's a catch-22.

Yes, it's a problem over both IE and Firefox, which I tried to download as a workaround. But when even Avira Antivirus status reports have no type, I'm kind of at a loss. It's really annoying.

Oh, and yes, it appears in safe mode, and no the laptop came bundled, so no Win 7 dvd.
