power button just puts laptop to sleep

I recently upgraded from vista 32 bit to 7 64 bit and one of the first things I did was adjust the power options. I set power button to "shut off" I set the sleep button to "sleep" and I set closing my laptop to "do nothing" yet all 3 just make it sleep! I can see that everything is set the way I put it but it still falls asleep when I close the lid and when I push the power button even though I set it to do something else, any ideas?

Try setting "when you close the lid" to Shut down.

ok that worked but I stopped it from shutting down, I would like it to DO NOTHING when I shut the lid

edit: and then when I switched it back to "do nothing" it still shuts off now...

    Control Panel | Power Options
In the left-hand side task pane, you will see selections to:
Choose what the power buttons do and
Choose what closing the lid does.

There are settings for when on battery and when plugged in.

The OP stated that he has made the appropriate settings, but they are not working.

thank you! I was looking at the replies thinking trying this forum was a waste of time, but alas everything seems to be working right now for some reason!
