"Open file in folder" makes windows explorer error

    Hi guys,
the option "open file in folder" makes a windows explorer error (when the window opens)
    It must close and restart

It happens when I do it with QBittorrent (torrent client)
It also happens with IDM (Internet download manager)

I run a clean fresh install of win7 since one month
(it happened with the other win7 installation before too)

    I did a SF scannow
    not working

    It happens sometimes, not always

    any idea why?

Open the Command Prompt by clicking Start Menu --> All Programs --> Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt, and open it as an administrator.

Please execute following command to fixes errors on the C: partition.

    Code:
    Chkdsk C: /r
You will be prompted to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts, type Y and press enter key.

The bigger the HDD capacity, the longer it takes for it to repair errors on the HDD.

I would like you to check the system integrity of your Windows OS installation.

    • Please type cmd.exe into Start Menu search box.
    • Please right click cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator".
    • Please type the following command and press the <Enter> key: sfc /scannow (Please note that there is a space between 'sfc" and "/scannow".)
    • It should take about 20 minutes to run, if there are no serious errors.
    • If the System File Checker reports that some errors were fixed, but some remain; please reboot your computer and run the System File Checker from an Administrator Command Prompt, again.
    • If the System File Checker again reports that some errors were fixed, but some remain, please reboot your computer and run it a third time.
    • If "Resource Integrity Violations" (errors) are reported that could not be corrected, or were not corrected after a third SFC run, then please navigate to the folder: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and copy the file "cbs.log" to your desktop immediately. I am asking you do that because that file is dynamic, so I want to be able to examine a copy that is unchanged from the time that the System File Checker was run.
    • If there are errors that couldn't be corrected, let me know and I will provide you with instructions as to how to upload the file.

    @FreeBooter, thank you

I did the "chkdsk r" yesterday before sleep
I did the sfcannow 15 minutes ago, no error found
I had to split the log file into 6 parts

I think no error was found during the chkdsk r scan

---EDIT---> I want to mention that I had a complete system freeze , one hour ago, and it's been years since that happened, I was even unable to do "crtl alt delete" !

Had to manually shut down the PC by holding the front button
I said this because it will show in the log file, for sure
    thanks

I newer seen a "open file in folder" option in context menu this does not make sense files cannot be open with folder, you can disable "open file in folder" context menu option with ShellMenuView is a small utility that displays the list of static menu items that appeared in the context menu when you right-click a file/folder on Windows Explorer, and allows you to easily disable unwanted menu items.

Some of the menu items in the context menu of Explorer are created dynamically using shell extensions. In these cases, you can use the ShellExView utility to disable them.

ShellExView can be used for solving context-menu problems in Explorer environment. For more information, read the following article: Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers

    @FreeBooter
Sorry maybe my english is not good
I said that this option is into the program Qbittorrent (utorrent also have this option, and I think every torrent client have this option) and also IDM internet download manager have this option too

    That's what I said:
It happens when I do it with QBittorrent (torrent client)
It also happens with IDM (Internet download manager)

(no I don't have a weird context menu option, I run a fresh install of win7 ultimate 64 bit SP1)

EDIT: it also happens with Foobar2000 (when I use the option "open in folder")
    Thanks!

So is this option for opening a folder location for a file?

Have you also use the programs i have suggested to see if you can disable this option.

I have a IDM and i don't have this option i only have "Open Folder" context menu option when i right click a file within IDM.

You are not running fresh install of Windows 7 you already installed third party programs which are not part of the Windows 7.

Please install all available important Windows updates, you can check and install Windows updates by opening "Start Menu --> Control Panel --> Windows Update" applet and click "Check for updates".

Secunia PSI is a tool that can be used to monitor your installed applications for new updates. When started, Secunia PSI will scan your computer for applications and install any updates that are available for them. This allows your computer to remain secure from possible vulnerabilities in your installed programs.

Make sure to keep your antivirus software up to date.

You should be very careful with usage of the peer-to-peer file sharing programs, these file sharing programs are use to infect computers. It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and thus suggested to be used with intense care.

Because you are using QBittorrent file sharing program lets scan for malware infection.

    Malwarebytes' scanner
If this program is already installed: Skip the installation and run only the scan!
Download and install: Please download Malwarebytes' scanner to your desktop.

    • Double-click mb3-setup-consumer-3.x.x.xxxx and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • Click Finish.
    • On the Dashboard, click the 'Check for Updates' button.
    • After the update completes, click the 'Scan Now' button.
    • A Threat Scan will begin. Please allow it to progress through the scanning process.
    • When the scan is complete, if there have been detections, click Quarantines Selected button to allow the program to clean what was detected.
    • In most cases, a restart will be required.
    • Wait for the prompt to restart the computer to appear, then click on Yes.

How to get logs: (Export log to save as txt)

    • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open Malwarebytes once more.
    • Click on the Reports tab > Scan Report. (if you have done more than one scan in the past, select the most recent that shows the Date and time of the scan just performed. Press View Report button.
    • Click 'Export'.
    • Click 'Text file (*.txt)'
    • In the Save File dialog box which appears, click on Desktop.
    • In the File name: box type a name for your scan log.
    • A message box named 'File Saved' should appear stating "Your file has been successfully exported".
    • Click Ok
    • Find the log on your Desktop and Attach that saved log to your next reply.

(Copy to clipboard for pasting into forum replies or tickets)

Download the right Windows bit version (32-bit or 64-bit) of RogueKiller

    • Quit all running programs
    • Once done, move the executable file to your Desktop, right-click on it and select Run as Administrator (for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 users)
    • If the program is blocked, do not hesitate to try several times. If it really does not work (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe
    • Click on the Start Scan button in the right panel, which will bring you to another tab, and click on it again (this time it'll be in the bottom right corner)
    • Wait for the scan to complete
    • On completion, the results will be displayed. Click on the Open Report button in the bottom left corner, followed by the Open TXT button (also in the bottom left corner)
    • This will open the report in Notepad. Copy/paste its content in your next reply

Ok when I said fresh install I meant that it's been re-installed one month ago

I also thought it could have been the lack of updates but no, after installing all the important updates available, that still happens once in a while, like once a week or two, not sure (it used to happen a lot more before the new install, a month ago. Like 2-3 times a week)

Yes in IDM it's called "open folder"
I just said "open file in folder" but it can also be "open destination folder" or "open containing folder"
Yes I did a malwarebyte scan, and I used to have it installed, but I don't keep it installed since I found no real use for it. I have been 15 years on a PC without this kind of software installed and never had a problem. When I have one I do a complete scan and all that stuff, after that , no use.

I will try Rogue killer to see if he find something (EDIT : roguekiller = no use for it)

The Secunia thing, is really not the kind of software I would use
sometimes I prefer older version of softwares
I installed only good softwares from the official sources or private torrent trackers

    ----
Now after 6 days I had this error again
I attached the infos about the error , here

This happened when I used the "open containing folder" option in QBittorrent
