How to make menu bar disappear in windows explorer

    Hi,

i have a problem, i had a virus and i have erased it but now the menu bar in windows explorer is always visible, even if i use from the menu tools>folder options>view>always show menus or i use organize>layout>menu bar the bar doesnt hide. Is there any registry patch or something to make it work again? Windows 7 has a very pleasent design but that bar is ruining everything.

    Thank you

Hello EPurpl3, welcome to Seven Forums!

Not sure if this will do it or not, can't hurt to have a go; have a look at the tutorial at the link below to see if it'll repair the files, if it finds corruption run it again until it comes clean; be sure to post back with the outcome.

    Hi again,

sorry for the slow response and thanks for the reply to both of you.

@Bare Foot Kid, i have scanned using the tutorial you gave me but unfortunately the menu bar is still there but the good part is that the computer seams to be faster now, thanks. Any way i have a huge .log file, should i upload it?

@Brink, i have downloaded from the tutorial you gave me the link the file 'Remove_Menu_Bar.reg' and used him but i see no change (i have restarted the computer). I looked into registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer but there is only (default) - REG_SZ into that folder. Thanks any way, do you have any other ideea?

I have updated the REG downloads at the link above. Please redownload them and try it again to see if that may help instead.

    Hello again.

Start by downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes, then run a full scan, if it finds anything continue to run scans until it comes clean; be sure to post back with the outcome.

Ok. The virus may have entered the values at another location in the registry causing this.

Use the "Find" and "Find Next" feature in regedit to search for AlwaysShowMenus, then AlwaysShowClassicMenu afterwards. If any of these entries are found in the search results in the registry, then delete them in all locations found. Afterwards apply the Remove_Menu_Bar.reg download again.

    Done
@Bare Foot, i have installed Malwarebytes but every time i start it the uninstall windows for BitDefender (my antivirus) appears and after i press cancel for several times a error apperars (from Malwarebytes) which says "an error has occured. please report this error code to our....... MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,5)". I presume this is not the usual behavior for this software :).

@Brink. I have searched all those and i have deleted all of them (except for internet explorer), there were 5 or 6, but nothing have changed except that now i dont have any more in folder options the option "Always show the menu bar"... i have changed from Organize>layout but doesnt work.

It looks like the virus may have done it's damage.

To be safe, you might consider doing a clean reinstall of Windows 7.
