    partition

why does shrink volume only display 350gb available to shrink out of a total of 703 gb on (C:) drive? the Hewlett Packard is fresh out of the box. it was partitioned with 200MB system files, the 703GB partition contains 25GB of files, 150MB partition unallocated. a (D:) drive HP created for emergency (nice feature). any suggestions on what to do with 150MB since it is so small (mb). windows 7.

Hi Takoda ! Welcome to the forums.

Do you want to have a second partition for data there ? Partition Wizard Bootable CD is the best solution for it. Download the iso image, burn it in a blank cd. Boot up it. Choose 1 for resolutions , and you can move the slider bar to shrink the drive, as you need .

Hello takoda, welcome to Seven Forums!

It's the way Windows installs to a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) it disperses parts of the OS acros the allotted HDD space, for one the Master File Table is put out in the middle of the allotted space, the bigger the allotted space the more of it Windows will claim for its own use; if you do re-size the OS partition be sure to make backups of any data you would not want to lose before you begin.

    takoda,

I was just wanting to see what you was dealing with as far as where the 150mb partition was located. I also think that the Partition Wizard would be your best solution to setting up your partitions the way that you prefer. Good luck to you with this. Always someone here to help you along the way. Enjoy

myzr7 thanks for the hospitality. the 150 megs is last on the right side of display results. the 350gb available of 703 has me curious, perhaps bare foot kids reply explains it. i'll make the 150mb a partition but what would you do with it then (its small)?
