How do you add programs to the startup folder ?

I have looked and looked and I can not see a way to add links into the startup folder. If i use Windows explorer to navigate to the Startup folder, I am told I do not have authority to access it (I am the administrator and only account on the system). Nothing in control panel seems to apply so how is it done now ?
Thanks.

Adding links to Startup folder

No. I am looking to modify the startup folder not the start menu.

What I want to do is add shortcuts to the startup folder so that certain programs start when the machine is booted.

Hi Seelig and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

The path to this folder is as follows:

C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

This folder is normally hidden. Once you have access, simply right-click on the shortcut that you want, drag it to this folder and choose the option Create shortcuts here when you release the mouse button.

I just do a right click drag and drop of the program into the start menu startup folder and select 'create shortcut here' option.

Welcome to the forums.
