MSN and Gmail notifier possible clock issue?

for the last few days MSN has been broken (error 80048820) and i have just noticed Gmail notifier is broken (error "The server's certificate is invalid. 12057")
i have done some research are most people suggest both are caused by a clock issue but i have tried to update the clock on the internet and also set it manually.
still no luck
i have removed all proxy settings and disabled windows firewall still MSN and Gmail notifier are broken everything else is fine having no troubles browsing the internet

this is on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit has anyone got any tips?

Thanks Scott.
