    Windows 7 or Dell

I just bought a new dell desktop computer and have had it for a week. It came with windows 7 professional.

I'm not sure if my problem is windows or hardware related.

In the morning when I turn my computer on with the power button, my internet connection does not function properly. But if I reboot using windows, it works fine after reboot.

My dell has a wireless USB adapter for internet.

Any idea why I have to reboot after turning it on with the power button to get a good internet connection? Is there a way to find out if it is a software problem (i.e conflict) or hardware problem?

    thanks

Put your usb wireless adapter in first then power on and see what happens.

Did it come with an antivirus preinstalled?

I would try to fix it in the Network and Sharing Center. It is probably an IP address problem.

Hello steve, Welcome to sevenforums. I know you said it was a brand new Dell but did you try to update the driver in Device Manager?

When you start and it fails to connect, rightclick the Network connection in System Tray to run Troubleshooter. It should clue you to what the problem is and fix it.

Are you using the Dell wireless utility, or built-in Win7 wireless? I would disable Dell and use Win7's as it is designed to start up before you get to desktop depending upon your adapter, and should autoconfigure.

wow...thanks for the responses...I will investigate with the threads posted.

Someone asked about how I'm using the wireless network.

    1. My sony has a linksys router.

    2. My dell has a linksys usb wireless adapter that gets its signal from the router hooked up to the sony. The linsys usb adapter came with window 7 disk and drivers.

    3. I have done windows 7 update and everything is up to date.

    4. No virus or at least norton does not report any

This may be a dumb question, but I assume you connected (or tried to connect) to the router. Right?
