    #9 icon in system tray

I'm setting up a new Dell laptop for someone and there is a square black icon in the system tray with a white "9" in it. Left or right clicking it does nothing and hovering shows nothing. I have already uninstalled and disabled a bunch of stuff but I still haven't figured this one out. I've Googled a bit and although others have seen it, no one has a cure that is applicable on this laptop.
    Anyone know what this is?

Press the num lock key (may be in conjunction with the Fn key) and it will go away. This is a Dell special.

I could swear I tried the NumLock key before and it didn't work. But that was it. It turns the "9" off and on and the Fn key is not needed. I wonder how the number 9 is supposed to correlate to Caps Lock
    Thanks.

    Its Dell's "Quick Set" Application

I just go off chatting with Dell. The Icon that you are referring to is actually a application "Quick set" that works for the shortcuts of the keyboard. You can disable it by using msconfig, and turning off the Dell Quickset in the startup tab.

However, if you turn it off you can't use quickset. On my Inspiron 14 laptop, that means I can't control the volume, brightness, and media controls. So you basically have to live with it. Not to smart on Dell's part.

Thanks much for this!!!! I hate icons that just show up & won't explain themselves with a click - HOW RUDE. The icon for "numbers lock" is a capital white 'A' in a black box on my Dell Inspiron.
