You may just be misunderstanding how it works. Your adverised 2MBPS connection is actually 2 megabits per second, probably with an "up to" qualifier.. it translates to a maximum total bandwidth of roughly 250 kilobytes per second, which are the units displayed when downloading something from your browser.. if you're getting half that, you're doing better than most. My neighbors are paying for a 15 Mbps connection and are lucky if they get 1/3 that (600-700 KB/s on a connection that should max out at over 2MB/s). It also depends on the server your downloading from and the time of day. Internet connections are always much faster in the middle of the night than the are at 4:30pm..
