    Power Schemes

    Hi Guys,

I have created 2 new power schemes for our environment using group policy preferences for both our workstations and our laptops.

Under the sleep options under advanced options there is an option for "Allow wake timers". There does not seem to be a way to enable\disable this function with Group policy.

With some investigation i found that the registry key that needs to be changed is under a different GUID on different machines.

Is there a way i can deploy this function without using a script to a corporate environment via either group policy policies or preferences?

    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to SF! jase72

Generally this is an option found in the bios setup for the main board on each system if present. Once disabled there it can't be used in Windows and likewise needs to be enabled in the bios for use in Windows.

The power scheme option only works when enabled there first. Typically a modem card is added on the system for the remote wakeup call to see that task performed by businesses with several office machines involved. An ethernet network card will substitute for a dial-up type modem card connected through an incompany network.

    Thanks for your reply.

All of our machines are set up to wake up from the Bios. When i change the setting manually it works. What i am asking is there a way to deploy this to the fleet?

If each machine was an identical set of hardwares you would think one power plan would suffice on all of them using a common signal source for a general wakeup. On the other hand if you are seeing a mix of various makes, models you may need a custom strategy to accumidate most or all of them.

The option has to be available in the bios of each system first however and enabled in order for that to work. If the main board lacks the wakeup feature there the machine will simply need to be turned on manually with the power button. That has to be the first thing taken care of first if any do lack there.
