Icons Disappear

Has anybody ever had this problem? One of my clients has a laptop computer with Windows 7 that they hook up to a docking station, and when its hooked up they create shortcuts on their desktop. The only problem is that when they take their machine off the desktop and bring it in to work and power on their machine, their shortcuts that they just created are no longer there. I have no idea why they would be dissapearing, PLEASE HELP.

What are the icons which are disappearing?

If it is a work laptop, are they allowed to create them? Does the machine reset itself after a restart?

I am not sure exactly what icons the client said that were dissapearing but I do know that it is her work laptop and she is allowed to create desktop shortcut Icons. Also I had her right click the desktop and choose View and then I had her make sure Show Desktop Icons was checked, and it was. I believe when she creates shortcuts on her desktop when her laptop is hooked up to her docking station and then she undocks it and then boots it up later that the Icons she created are now gone.

Does the docking station have its own hard drive for storage?

No the docking station does not have its own harddrive for storage. Ive been told that if you go into gpedit.msc and disable the Hide Icons...option then that might fix it. Does anybody know if that would possible resolve the issue?

Is it possible that she is being logged on as a different user when using the docking station?

As for gpedit, you can do a lot with it. I'm not sure if that's the way you want to go, though. I'm not saying it isn't, either. This is a new one for me.
