When I press buttons on my keyboard..

    Hey whats up guys?

Hey when I have Windows Explorer opened up, and I press lets say the ' H ' Key , you would expect it to jump down and highlight a folder with that starts with the letter H right? Mine Jumps to the top right corner & searches my computer for files that start with H, or whatever else I choose to add into there afterward

How can I make it go back to the way it used to be & have it highlight folders.

    Thanks in advance!

Hello Spinsta Welcome to the Seven Forums!

It mainly depends on where you have WE opened to when going to press the H key. If you simply click on your main drive here and press H the highlight immediately goes to HomeGroup. If you click on let's say the first folder on C with an A it may go direct to the hiberfil.sys file at the root which begins with H.

If you clicked in the search box and press H Windows assumes that is the first letter of the item you are running a search on there. If you happen to have Programs Files or Program Files(x86) open and click on anything in one of those directories it will go to the first H item found. WE is acting normally searching for the nearest H item being the explorer tool.

Thanks for the quick reply -

I see what you're saying but if I press windows key
+ E to open up explorer, without clicking anything, and ill hit o to to go down to select my OS -- but it won't go there - it inputs the letter o in the search field, even if I do select a folder and then try to browse through it using letters, it automatically inputs everything I press into the search field no matter where I click ( unless it is in the far left box .. tree box .. )

The view settings in the Tools>Folder options are set different there then here. When I open a new window using that key combo and hit the O key nothing happens. I have to click in the search box first to see any letter entered.

Yeah I went looking through the options but I couldn't find anything that looked like it would change the setting - so I just tried restoring my folder options back to default settings - it changed it back to normal - so I looked through the options & found the setting, I had to scroll down I guess - my bad.

Just in case somebody is looking for the solution to this in the future:

Alt > Tools > Folder Options > View > When Typing into list view: Select the typed item in the view

    Thanks for the help NH
