I found 1 restore point, it is 7/19/10 but it says that the type is Backup and the rest are system and install. All restore points are within this week. Do you think I can choose this one?

But still if the U3 is the culprit here, why if I insert a DVD, it also creates a shortcut but when I eject it, it disappears.

Use the oldest System Restore and hope that it is before the problem. If you use the backup. That will do the same thing, but you lose your personal stuff everything will change. Why not use the back up, but back up what you dont want to lose first.
. What you do now is up to you.

When you saw the SR dates, did you check the box, bottom left, "show more dates"?

When I tried the scan for affected programs, it has many programs that will be deleted even the updates. Will it gonna be alright?

I would FIRST get rid of the U3 software if possible.

It's probably trying to be "helpful" by putting an icon on your desktop when a drive/disk is inserted then removing it when the drive/disk is removed. This is like common Linux and Mac behavior and someone probably ported that behavior to windows through this utility program.

It may have even come on a USB drive that you bought or with some other software.

Ok then here is your choice, Try SR if points are not old enough, try Image, but backup first.

That other poster may have had something. Does this happen with all your DVDs etc or only a few U3 items?

If just with U3 related hardware, that is the problem just stop using.

If it happens with everything the cause is not really imporant we have to get rid of it.

I will be away for a while, post and I will get back to you. It will not be that long.

It changes only the OS, you will be the same as a week ago, if you use SR. You may have to install updates etc again..Even some programs.

Ok, I tried my external hard drive which is WD, it doesnt create a shortcut.
When I burned some DVD, each blank dvd that i inserted creates a shortcut.
So what should I do now?
