    transferring contents of rar file to desktop


    transffering contents of rar file to desktop..
    if i have a rar file which holds file content if i transfer contents of rar file to desktop the files will unpack but i can not operate the desktop while this is happening while rar file is unpacking i cannot even send at the same time anything to the bin.

    cpu.quadcore intel q600
    2gig of ram
    windows 7 ulimate
    hard drive...hitachi HDT725040VLA360 ATA DEVICE

    You have one hard drive. If you're unpacking, your hard drive is busy with that task, and it will have to queue other tasks which require HD access, switching between the two as it/the OS sees fit. Deleting a file, for example. Let the unpacking finish and you should be good to go. Doing two read/write intensive tasks at the same time will make both of them go slower and take longer than if you were to do both tasks sequentially.

    Which software do you use to unpack rar archives?

    My suggestion is to try 7-zip. This is a free program, it can convert or unpack almost all archive formats, it exists in 64-bit version if you happen to have a x64 OS, and it's very light on resources - I never had any problem with using it.

    Edit: Oh, I noticed that you are running 7 x64 on 2 GB RAM. I would suggest adding at least another 2 GB of RAM - you will see a rather noticeable improvement in your machine's performance.
